2013 Tsiba Eden Wine Farm Trail Series: Merendal

So somewhere between all the torrential rain that we’ve been having, there appeared a small gap of sunshine that allowed me to take part in this very pleasant and scenic trail run.
I’ve been out of running action for a while thanks to a fairly serious shin splints injury, but am back on the slow road to recovery.
For those who haven’t done a trail run before – the Tsiba Eden trail series is the perfect introduction to the sport (as it was mine after many years of road running). Each month they organize an informal trail run on a wine farm somewhere in the western cape. There are no entry requirements or limitations, and all the proceeds go to a good cause.

Here you’ll find a link to last years event report, as well as other Tsiba events I’ve attended.

… and if that wasn’t enough, here’s some visuals of the day’s run:

Tokai Manor House Run–26 Dec 2012

Final Race for 2012 – and one of the most scenic. Another good entry level difficulty for those looking to get into trail running.
If you’re wanting to run this race – be warned that it’s become quite popular of the past few years, and a few runners thinking they’d enter on the day had to be turned away.
Also – since there’s only a single road into the parking area – get there early else you’ll be late for the start (I only made it with a few minutes to spare)
The first few km’s are paved – but the rest is all jeep track trail

The trail is quite tree dense – so even if the wind blows, it’s fairly sheltered.

Some awesome views are to be had when you reach the top contour path:

… and then back down through the forest to the end where some of the locals wait to cheer you on…
